UH-60 Black Hawk Nose Mount
Mace Aviation designed a nose mounted sensor kit for the UH-60 Black Hawk, giving operators a fast, adaptable way to add EO/IR surveillance capability to a fielded aircraft.
The Challenge
Black Hawk operators needed a way to add electro-optical and infrared sensors, including the L3 Wescam MX-10 and MX-15, along with an optional Bendix/King RDR 2100 color weather radar, without a lengthy install process or permanent structural changes to the aircraft.
What Mace Built
Mace designed a lightweight nose mount built to accept the MX-10 sensor and adaptable to other EO/IR systems. The mount installs on the aircraft in under an hour, and a sensor quick disconnect feature lets the sensor itself be removed in under a minute, so operators can swap payloads or pull the sensor for maintenance without removing the whole mount.
The Outcome
The nose mount has moved from initial development into low rate production and is available today for Black Hawk operators looking to add sensor capability quickly.
